AudriusButkevicius asked me to post here to get some wide input on what is probably misconfiguration due to a variety of factors. Any help is gratefully received, I am so close! (and not massively 'nix literate).
History:
Started this about 4 months ago. Version 11 syncthing update broke on both NAS boxes and didn’t start again until the package updates for 12. Since then it has picked back up, but all in all this has taken months to get to a workable state, and it’s not there yet.
For 6 folders totalling about 1.8TB it has taken literally months to index. Finally both are saying up to date… but they are not. one is missing nearly 100GB from one folder, the other is missing more than that from a different folder. They both show up to date. Last seen shows ?.
Rescan does nothing. I have tried pausing to resume but they will not pause. CPU is hovering around 30% av. with a rescan interval of 3600 (the NAS boxes aren’t beefy). I have restarted both boxes more than once. Local states and Global states don’t match on the devices. For a short while one wouldn’t start because I accidentally removed a < from the config.xml in vi but I replaced it and it starts fine now. I HAVE seen them syncing before, but since something went funny in the DS215J config file, nothing.
I still suspect something is broken… Here are the configs:

A couple of screenshots would probably be helpful here.
Some things are calculated in the background (up to date status of connected devices, among others) which can probably take a long time with a lot of files and slow CPU.

The configs are also vertically truncated…
You should run syncthing with STTRACE=discovery,connections environment variable set and post the logs.
Also, relay pool URL seems to be broken, which might be the problem if both nodes are behind a NAT, yet the UI shows its fine.
Just to clarify, I had to remove all instances of links from the configs as the forum told me I could only post 1. I have masked therefore username, links, and truncated the discovery. Perhaps I should upload the configs clean as notepad files, as this seems to get in the way of analysis?

STTRACE=discovery,connections /volume1/@appstore/syncthing/bin/syncthing
(or Audrius’s suggestion below - both have the same effect)
So in the shell, type:
export STTRACE=discovery,connections

Thanks Canton, Andruis. So, I am very unfamiliar with linux in general, especially the flavour on the NAS boxes, and I usually interface in Windows. I’m using putty, and syncthing is run through the package on the boxes. I guess I stop it and then use that syntax to start it again?
Can I also ask where I would expect the logs and what they will look like?

No, thatprobably won’t work. Check with your package maintainer on how to set debug options.
