Syncthing running but gui not available

I only have ssh (without remote desktop) on my vserver :frowning:

Whatever you were doing before to try to connect to the gui, do the same thing but over https and not http.

well I thinks this is my problem :pensive: I’m using ssl since first run…

after killing syncthing, logs looking fine - no hints with errors :flushed: killing syncthing doenst seem to push any lines to synthing.log :unamused:

Did you kill it with SIGABRT?

It’s also possible that the init script you have makes the log to be overwritten.

nope I used kill -6 and deleted the log before killing. log file had about 260MB…

there were no lines about errors than the SSL errors from above…

Sorry, i don’t follow what you are doing. If you don’t have access to the web ui after reatarting syncthing then it’s not a bug, you’re most likely just connecting to the wrong port. The port is printed in the logs.

I couldn’t access the gui from remote from time to time although syncthing was running and listening on the right port… so I watched the logs and found a lot of ssl errors (e.g. 2015/06/27 05:36:26 http: TLS handshake error from 109.XXX.XXX.33:4152: EOF). after killing syncthing, it workes fine (mostly until I can’t access the gui again) before your hint just to kill syncthing, I always restarted the vserver… (which helped too)

and

didn’t push any hints to syncthing.log :flushed:

Well try running syncthing stand alone, send a kill -6 from a second shell and it should produce output. It’s probably your init script swallowing it.

hi there! same this morning: syncthing running and listening - but GUI not responding.

watched the logs and found about 40 lines about running syncthin twice:

…and is another another copy of Syncthing running? What exactly does “GUI not responding” mean? Are http requests for the GUI timing out, or are they being rejected?

Also, is it actually running? Because the log just says it failed to start, it doesn’t have any logs of running successfully.

yes it’s running and syncing and its only one instance that is running :pensive:

chrome says: “Diese Webseite ist nicht verfügbar.” which means it’s not available… chrome err code: ERR_CONNECTION_RESET if I watch the statusbar while trying to connect: “trying to establish secure connection” and then it aborts without having a connection established :disappointed_relieved: I think its maybe a problem with the handshake or with the certificate itself…?

Well the log says otherwise, it does seem that you have to instances running, and the one which does seem to be running and causing connection issues doesn’t have it’s log captured, so there is very little we can diagnose without the log.

now i see :relaxed: have actually 2 running instances - but dont know why  thanks so far!!!

what do you think: is my script responsible for the second instance?

# /etc/init/syncthing.conf
start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE!=lo)
stop on runlevel [!2345]
env STNORESTART=yes
env USERID='syncusr'
env HOME=/home/$USERID
# setuid "syncusr"
# setgid "syncusr"
script
exec 1>>/var/log/syncthing.log 2>&1
su - $USERID -c '/usr/local/bin/syncthing'
end script
respawn

It’s really very important that you answer correctly the first time. Otherwise you just waste everyone’s time at best, and end up completely misleading us and not solving your problem at worst.

That’s not starting Syncthing with -no-restart, which is likely causing your issues.

thanks guys! one final question: which is correct? su - $USERID -c '/usr/local/bin/syncthing -no-restart’ or su - $USERID -c ‘/usr/local/bin/syncthing’ -no-restart

@canton7 be sure, wasting someones time isn’t my intent. sad to hear that. I checked if there was a second instance running - but overlooked it or just made a fault. anyway thanks much
