pull: peers who had this file went away (Android Client)

Based on my previous topic here: Server is Out of Sync & cannot Override?

My Android Client is “Up to Date”; but, my server is “Out of Sync” because of 4 large files that need to be “pulled” or sync’d to the server form my Android client.

The server logs have some oddness.

  1. it looks like it has a direct connection, that gets interrupted.

  2. next connection is through, a RELAY?!?!

  3. the connection is forcefully closed, which breaks the file transfer.

Some notes about my setup:

A) I have disabled UPNP on my router. B) I have direct connections setup for all of my clients and peers using local network hostnames (and ensured DNSMasq is setup properly to resolve those hostnames). C) I never sync remotely - always locally on the same network.

Also note that 100s of other photos sync’d just fine. It’s these 4 large videos that are not able to transfer.

Lastly, note that my Android version of Syncthing is very buggy. I can open and get things to “sync” the first time; but, after that it remains open with “Syncthing is running” when it isn’t actually running. Trying to go back to Syncthing once these log messages above appear just end with the endless “Please wait” spinning android logo as it is trying to load something.

I have left it at that “loading something” screen overnight several times - nothing ever loads.

I constantly have to Kill the app and restart it manually to get it to sync again.

Maybe a “keep it running in background” option isn’t set correctly?

Nexus 5X, non-rooted.

I had a lot of trouble getting my new Android in sync, syncthing (android) kept crashing while trying to deal with large data sets (2-3GB), even spread across multiple files.

The devices eventually synced if I kept starting syncthing each time it crashed. Sitting in the loading screen is probably a waste of your time, syncthing has stalled in the background an you are not achieving anything.

Try dissableing run in background then open ST. Return to the phone’s home screen and let ST do its thing, every so often check if the notification is still in the notification bar and if it disappears open syncthing again.

Once it is up to date you should be able to enable run in background again and hopefully smaller changes will be kept in sync without issue.

What you described is exactly what I have been doing - for months, and it eventually gets sync’d. I only described the “waiting” screen as an excessive proof that something is fracked up.

But yeah, I previously had Run in Background disabled and would just open ST when I wanted it to sync. Let it startup and then go back to Home screen with it running in the background, with notification.

But that notification never stops… Clicking that notification brings me back to an Ever Loading animation screen, that never loads anything.

If I left it rest overnight with the ST notification running in the background, it disconnects after about 7 minutes on wifi.

NOTE: I’ve also switched wifis, from 2.4 to 5.8 ghz. tried different routers, etc. i WFH with GB/day in work, and never have issues with my wifi. so let’s leave that out as an option for disconnecting.

So the error indicates that something went wrong on the android side (it thinks the file hasn’t changed, but it actually has). This could be due to low timestamp granularity on Android, or some app that modifies video metadata while trying to preserve the timestamp.

You’d have to reset index on the android side to fix this. The option is available somewhere in advanced android settings.

In my case the Android side was crashing during the sync. The problem is I don’t have a device to to do debugging on at the moment so I haven’t been able to look into it.

I would file a bug report but the information I have is to vague to be of use at the moment.
