I only know the same: Bountysource doesnât exist. And thereâs no officially endorsed alternative. If anything working like bountysource thatâs not needed either, anyone can just set a bounty on anything.
I think any new initiative like this should be treated very carefully and with skepticism. A third party company taking a backerâs money at day one in order to pay it out, hopefully, at some unspecified time in the future, if a certain issue were to become solved, is a fairly iffy proposition to begin with. I bet they took a significant amount of backersâ money with them to the grave.
This can be also said about banks or pension funds. But it doesnât stop us from putting money in them. ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
I think that the risk is rather minor.
People willing to do this should still have a choice to do so. But it would be the best if there would be info about using a third party service and about linked potential risks.
Oh for sure, not taking anyones choice away. BountySource was just that, it didnât come from âusâ, it came from people choosing to use it and us adopting/accepting it since it was already in place. (Then it disappeared, taking the backersâ money with them, so the risk in hindsight was nonzero.)
