I installed Syncthing today on my Windows PC and my Android tablet, and wanted to set up the DCIM folder on my Android tablet as a first test. However, I keep getting this error message:
[I5XIJ] 2025/05/21 15:30:50 INFO: Connection to IVCQJFV at 192.168.0.227:58114-217.197.116.187:22067/relay-client/TLS1.3-TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256/WAN-P50-621HARGHLROOAOCF4BOA3SVE8I closed: handling cluster-config: remote expects to exchange plain data, but local data is encrypted (folder-type receive-encrypted)
I have tried deleting and remaking the folder with “receive encrypted”, but then the error message becomes something about unexpected files, and nothing actually gets synchronised.
Did I make a mistake somewhere when setting up? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Syncthing on both tablet and computer, but with no visible changes anywhere.
You don’t indicate anywhere that you want an encrypted folder resp. have an untrusted device. You likely just want normal sync. So set up both sides as normal send-receive folder types, and do not enter any encryption passwords on either side. Then those errors will go away.
The folders are both set up as send-receive, aren’t they? I can’t find any setting that would indicate otherwise, and I never set a password on either of them.
Can you tell me if there’s a setting somewhere I should double check to make sure they are both send & receive? It says send & receive on the folder type on the computer, and the same on the android.
Ahhh, there it was! My browser’s password manager saw an open password field and autofilled a password there, and I didn’t notice it. Thank you! ^^
