Connection Problems

Trying to sync from a Windows PC to a Ubuntu PC.

It all worked OK but seems to have got stuck near the end of the first sync. All I see from the Windows PC is the Status (Web GUI) of the Ubuntu PC goes from connected to:

Address dynamic
kcp://[IPADDRESS]:22020
deprecated protocol (17:48:38)
tcp://[IPADDRESS]:22000
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. (15:49:05)

deprecated protocol (20:04:44)
tcp://[fe80::c18d:106b:f0ec:daa2%25WiFi]:22000

On the Ubuntu PC the WebGUI either refuses to load (no page found) or a short connection followed by a message popping up with “Connection Error”

I’ve tried resetting the Database on the Ubuntu which seemed OK for a minute or so then went back to the same problem.

Just saw this in SysLog on Ubuntu machine:

Any thoughts

If you can’t access the UI, it’s probably not running hence it does not connect.

Judging by the logs you are running incredibly old versions of syncthing that are no longer supported, so I suggest you upgrade first.

Your Ubuntu machine runs a very old version of syncthing which will always crash when syncing any larger file (this probably due to your Ubuntu repository not offering anything newer). The Windows PC is up to date. Syncthing’s own apt repository (apt.syncthing.net) has the latest versions for Debian/Ubuntu machines.

Thanks very much, assumed Ubuntu repository was up to date! Should be removed from there if it’s not up to date. It’s all working fine now, thanks again.

The official Ubuntu (or Debian) repositories contain software packed by the Ubuntu (Debian) maintainers and the syncthing team has no control over what software they package or which versions they distribute.

This is just the way how (official) debian-style repositories work. They tend to package one version at time x, then go use that version for a bunch of years and only update when the user upgrades to a newer distro version. This is fine for software where development is slow, but it’s not really suited for the fast development of syncthing.

OK, a lesson for me. Thanks again for your help.
