What’s the difference between the com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid_release_xxx.apk and com.github.catfriend1.syncthingfork_release_xxx.apk release packages?

I was able to update my outdated google play installation with that one. But the recommended way derived from the release note is switching to the *.syncthingfork one. I guess it’s because that is continued at Fdroid and Github?
