What would it require to get official Android support?

I noticed that official Android support has been ended: Discontinuing syncthing-android

Fortunately, there seems to be an “unofficial” Android available in F-Droid and Play Store: GitHub - researchxxl/syncthing-android: Syncthing-Fork - A Syncthing Wrapper for Android.

Thanks a lot for those maintainers. However, it would increase confidence in the security and long-term maintenance, if Syncthing Foundation was officially backing the Android client. For instance, this comment isn’t very reassuring that Android support would work for many years to come:

There isn’t much of official support, whatever that means, but if someone proposed Android specific bug fixes that don’t have adverse effects on something else there is no reason not to merge them.

So, is there anything that we, the users, could do to make official Android support happen again? Could we, for instance, donate for this purpose specifically, if funding helped?

Syncthing is such an amazing and important application that it’d be extremely valuable to have it on Android again.

Don’t interpret too much into the Syncthing project dropping support for the wrapper. This mostly boils down to a lack of a maintainer with the blessing of the project. That doesn’t mean that nobody cares about Android support.

The dust is still settling, but with @nel0x and @researchxxl teaming up, I’m confident that we’re on track to having a well maintained app under the umbrella of the Syncthing project in the near future
