New to syncthing - is it possible to view remote files on my desktop without actually syncing everything to my phone? Just want to select the odd file to download….
Search the forum for “Selective Sync”.
While I don’t speak for them, the developers have made it clear they aren’t working on this feature request.

Theoretically, it could be possible to just show a list of files that the remote device is trying to sync with the current device, but there is currently no support to view them from within the GUI 
.

The GUI of Syncthing Tray actually allows browsing the global file tree and that’s also possible on Android. There’s no way to download single files on demand yet but one can adjust ignore patterns from the global file tree browser.
If you’re intrested now, please read the referenced documentation from the top, especially the part that says the app is still experimental. (In fact, I’ve just recently fixed an annoying regression regarding the export which hasn’t been released yet. The list of documented caveats is also still quite long.)
