"This site can't be reached" Error Screen (ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED)

Good Evening Everybody,

I’m new to using Syncthing, and in the past few days I’ve been facing problems connecting one of my devices into the Syncthing interface.

I’m not really a tech guy, so I had difficulties interpreting and putting into execution some of the advices from other discussion pages.

To be more specific, I’m trying to connect a Desktop using the “Brave” browser in means to pair 2 Obsidian folders between 3 different devices (2 Up-to-date, 1 of them currently disconnected due to the error).

My device didn’t seem to have any apparant reason to disconnect other than a conflict between files since I forgot to configure their file versioning, although I don’t really think that’s the cause.

I’m using the built in link https://127.0.0.1:8384/, but other than that I can only assure that the error seemed to have occured randomly throughout the night after attempting to open my syncthing interface through my Desktop.

I would appreciate for any kind of help regarding the subject.

Regards,

Roger Pandolfo.

Looks like the Syncthing program is simply not running on one machine. How are you starting it usually? Could an operating system update have silently restarted the machine?

Please tell us how you installed Syncthing and whether you are using one of the convenience wrappers (e.g. SyncTrayzor) or the plain executable with a web browser?

I usually start through the “Syncthing Configuration Page” in my Start menu on Windows 11.

I suppose you refer to a Windows update for the second question, but I’m not really sure that an OS update could have an affect on it, specially considering that the latest update on my device was 3 days ago, and this issue occurred a day after said update.

I installed it through this link: Syncthing | Downloads . Which in this case, I opted for the “Syncthing Windows Setup” download link. For the device that’s not working, I’m using the plain executable with a web browser.

Although, something strange just happened yesterday. I was a bit infuriated that both my Obsidian vaults conflicted and just so happened to fuse into one another because I didn’t configure correctly my file versioning, and therefore I decided to start from scratch by deactivating the files from my computer which Syncthing still worked, deleted the folders from both my phone and my Laptop, and subsequently fixed and backed up the originally paired Obsidian folders from inside my computer.

On the next day (today), I went to check the status of my Syncthing inside my Laptop. For some reason, now my Syncthing inside my Laptop actually opens, and even displays the two Obsidian folders as “Stopped” in a red colour. Whilst simultaneously, now my Computer displays the same error message my Laptop previously did. Which basically means that now my Laptop works Syncthing, but my Computer shows the Error message.

I believe it would probably have been better if I didn’t tweak with the folders too soon, and for that I admit my mistake. But do you think are there is any possibility that this has something to do with an overflow of devices or the fact that I don’t use Trayzor for my other devices?

You need to make sure that Syncthing actually gets started on the computer. Syncthing Windows Setup takes care of that I think, unless you opt out or install with some non-standard options. On the machine where you just downloaded the executable standalone, you need to actively start it somehow, or arrange for some way of auto-starting it, see the corresponding documentation section. The link to the configuration page won’t work when the program isn’t running in the background.

A Windows update may well be at fault for Syncthing no longer running, if you didn’t configure it to auto-start in the background. Updates do cause silent reboots at night regularly in Windows.

As for stopped folders, that’s a completely different problem. You should unfold the folder panel and check what error message it reports. There should also be a notification at the top of the Web GUI for an such failure. If you’re unsure how to interpret the info, send screenshots. That’s usually the quickest way for us to gather information to help you.

Using SyncTrayzor is usually a more comfortable way, as it had easy options for auto starting and shows you the Syncthing status at a glance through its tray icon.

Hello, sorry for the late reply.

So yeah, now thinking about it I feel like I should probably Install Trayzor since I can probably figure out a way to auto-start it and run it in the background without the need of a separate tab on my computer to do that job.

Oh, and thanks for letting me know that I could check the error messages through unfolding the folder. I’ll check it soon and in case the error persists, I’ll send you a screenshot.

I’ll update the post to notify any changes after installing Trayzor. :+1:

Hello! Once again, sorry for updating this post almost a month later after the original promise to do it so.

So basically I ended up installing Trayzor on both my Laptop and Computer. By the first days, I noticed there would be an error originating from either one of my devices, but I figured out it was because of two or more processes happening at the same time on said device which contained the error, which I subsequently managed to solve by Killing All Processes on the “Syncthing” tab every time it happened, until it eventually ceased to happen altogether in recent days. I believe maybe that was the cause of the original error that happened when I still used the link, but for some reason it didn’t really notify me of the cause unlike Trayzor.

But otherwise, everything’s been working fine so far. Personally I think the Trayzor interface is way more accessible and comfortable to use than the link alternative, and I would recommend anyone whose having trouble using Syncthing on the link to move to Trayzor because of it, but that’s just my opinion.

Overall, Thanks everybody for the help! This post was very useful, and I wish you guys a good one.
