Syncthing + ruTorrent AutoTools = Out of Sync Issues

Hi,

I use SyncThing with ruTorrent where I would sync torrents from my device to my NAS where I host rutorrent. The specific workflow with SyncThing is that I sync a folder dedicated to where I download the torrent files to the “watch” folder on my NAS. Then ruTorrent runs its import, removing the torrent files from the “watch” folder on my NAS. This removal breaks the sync and leaves me with an “out of sync” error every time. Is there a way to address this so that when the torrent files get removed by ruTorrent that it doesn’t break SyncThing? Thanks for the consideration! Cheers!

First, it’s “Syncthing,” please.

My recommendation is that you download torrent files to another directory that isn’t part of a Syncthing folder. Once your download is complete, then move it to a Syncthing Folder.

Apologies, Syncthing from now on.

Secondly, I’m not referring to the files being downloaded by the torrent client, but the “xyz.torrent” file itself that the torrent client uses to download the files. Sorry for not clarifying this.

I‘m sorry I misunderstood. You can use Ignore Patterns ( Ignoring Files — Syncthing documentation ) to not sync .torrent files — I believe all you need will be *.torrent as the first and only line.

Thank you! Will this permanently ignore all *.torrent files including incoming future *.torrents?

Yes.

Ok, well I’m trying to keep the syncing of the *.torrent files going without getting “out of sync” errors once ruTorrent removes the *.torrent file when it imports it to the rtorrent client.

I don’t think that’s going to work. I think you need to either ignore the .torrent files or accept that they’ll be out of sync when moved.

Deletions are perfectly valid and should sync. Note that there is a difference between an item being “out of sync”, and a folder showing an “Out of Sync” state. The former is normal and expected when there is modifications/deletions, and the latter is an error.
