Syncthing is stuck

I’ve recently switched phones from my old Pixel 8 to an Oppo (relevant because you’ll probably see the old device name in the logs) and exported/imported the configuration.

This is where I noticed syncthing was stuck at 99% with my server on one specific file. I tried to restart both parties, but it didn’t help, so I moved the file hoping it would wake things up. It did not.

As a next step, I removed the device from my server and re-added it, but this caused syncthing to want to resync ALL files even though they are already present. Now syncthing is stuck at 0% but newer files still get synced. I also tried re-adding the server on my phone, but things don’t change.

The exact same is happening with my computer who cannot sync with my phone and is completely stuck.

Logs are attached but I don’t see anything helpful :frowning:

Potentially relevant:

As a workaround, you can reset your delta indexes by starting Syncthing with the --debug-reset-delta-idxs option.

Thank you! I just tried this between my server and my computer, they started syncing files, but then they became stuck like this:

UPDATE: I have reconnected all nodes and they’re all stuck at 99% now

@marbens Here’s the current state of things now: My laptop:

My computer:

My phone:

Those “out of sync items” could be caused by some files that cannot be synced. Most likely because they have characters in the file name which the platform does not allow. Check out the list of items by click on the counts. See what the GUI on the other side (the specific remote device) has to say about the shared folders and possibly any “failed items”.

There are no failed items, only “Out of sync” ones with no explanation attached, it’s as if they are waiting.

I did notice that the files that are not syncing are in two encrypted folders. I see no errors, but the files are the same (and not all of them in the folder) in all the clients.

Could this be related: Encrypted peer needs files but actually already has them · Issue #9884 · syncthing/syncthing · GitHub?

No failed items on the remote device panel? Or on the folder panel when looking at the matching remote device’s GUI instead?

In any case, no failed items tab.

Please post full screenshots of the web GUI from all sides. Make also sure to unfold the affected folders information.

These are the screenshots from my server:

Thanks for the screenshots, they definitely help grasp the situation better. Something does look wrong with no valid reason so far. What I’d do in order to try troubleshooting this is:

  1. Focus on just two devices first (e.g. the server and the desktop), and on them, pause all other remote devices.
  2. Isolate the problematic folder(s) by pausing all other folders.
  3. Remove the folder on one side (just from Syncthing first), then add it again. You can trigger the Add Folder pop-up by pausing and unpausing the remote device.
  4. If that doesn’t change anything, try to repeat the process but this time remove the actual files from the disk as well.
  5. If the problem persists, repeat the procedure on the other side too.

If all of the above haven’t helped, then at this stage, I think you will have to wipe the Syncthing’s database and start from scratch (starting from one device, then moving to the next if the issue persists). Are these installations fresh or rather older that have been upgraded to Syncthing v2?

Also, before experimenting with anything, please make sure that you’ve got proper backups of all your important data.

Ok, it looks like it’s syncing anyway, let’s see…

Great to hear that, just one comment, as I don’t really use Receive Encrypted folders and forgot to mention this. With this folder type specifically, you do need to remove both the folder from Syncthing also the files from the disk, i.e. you cannot reuse the existing ones, they have to be downloaded all from scratch.

Okay good to know, I will stop it from syncing, delete it from both disk and UI and see what happens. I will update you as soon as it is done, it’s a lot of GBs

Thank you so much! You fixed it!

They are old installations later migrated to v2. It was already happening in v1.

Great to know that the issue is gone . I was asking about the installation age, as there may be some old database-related bugs coming from v1 that might have possibly still lingered after the upgrade, but if there’re no other problems with the synchronisation, I’d just continue using it without doing a full reset.

FYI I have this exact issue after upgrading to v2.0.14 yesterday. I’ll do the remove/re-add trick which looks like it’ll resolve it.

Here’s curium’s view of neon:

And here’s neon, just as happy as can be. Folder d25 is the one with stuck items.

Confirmed

That fixes it.
