Syncthing is not working on my arch installation.

systemd is bugged, localhost is bugged and I’m having permission issues when attempting to use syncthing, I would apprechiate any assistance in this matter.

Thanks.

It might make more sense to tackle the other problems first: Issues related to installation of the Arch Linux operating system

Please make sure to include as much information as possible if you actually want to receive help. With what you’ve provided so far, nothing can be done, really.

I do not know what else I am to provide, the syncthing localhost is essentially nuked, it’s an entirely different address now, the systemd is broken being it doesn’t start automatically, the files can’t sync due to permission issues.

For further context I am syncing from a android device using synthing-fork.

Basically, you should always include at least detailed information about your operating system, Syncthing version, including how you have installed it, etc. Adding screenshots displaying the issue is always welcome as well.

However, basing on what you’re writing, it seems that the problem is more about the OS rather than Syncthing iself…

so I presume I should open this to the arch linux forum?

How should someone help if you are unable to describe the problem?

I would say yes, but please include as much information as possible when writing a post on their forums, or otherwise you may not be treated kindly there.

You must know that Arch Linux isn’t intended for beginners, so people will assume that you’ve at least done your own troubleshooting first, and if you cannot fix the issue yourself, then provide all the information necessary for others to be able to help you.

In other words, instead of saying that “systemd is bugged, localhost is bugged and I’m having permission issues” you need to explain specifically what the problem with the first two is, and what kind of permission issues you have exactly.

I don’t exactly know how to describe the issue with the first two cause the gui is just completely broken, localhost does nothing, and when using systemd to enable the service the gui doesn’t work.

In terms of permission issues, that’s what they are, files are unable to be written, overwritten, etc cause the service lacks permissions, I’m unsure how else to explain this.

I also have tried troubleshooting this myself, referring to the wiki etc, but to no avail.

I used to daily drive arch, it is my favourite distro and I don’t know if I would call myself a beginner as I am daily driving it again now.

In this case, I would try attaching some screenshots and possibly videos that would show the problems that you are experiencing. This applies to issues specific to Syncthing too. If you see errors in the console or in the Web GUI, you can simply take a screenshot and upload it here.

UPDATE: after some time of resting I have fixed the permission issues and systemd is still not working however I can sync things so not the end of the world.

Solution:

Deleted all previously synced folders, deleted /home/shark/.local/state/syncthing and reinstalled Syncthing (“sudo pacman -Rncs syncthing” then “sudo pacman -Syu syncthing”)
