Syncing Retroarch saves & games between Launchbox, Steam, & an Xbox

Question about using SyncThing with Retroarch installed different ways on different devices.

I have 2 windows devices I want to sync Retroarch save and games on, and an Xbox (I’ll get the that in a minute.)

If I have Retroarch installed through Launchbox on computer A, and through Steam on Computer B, if I setup all the directories correctly, will I be able to sync my saves as I see others have done, and my games (so I only have to add new games to one computer)

Additionally, I have an Xbox Series S in Dev mode I want to sync to as well. I know there isn’t a Syncthing app, but I was wondering, if I set Retroarch on the Xbox so save everything on my external drive, could I setup that drive with a static letter on one of the PCs, and plug it in and have synchting sync it that way, so it would be a manual process to update saves & games each time I want to use the Xbox, but it would work?

I’m pretty sure the answer to all of these questions is yes if I do all the setup correctly, but figured I would double check before I head down that road. Thanks

Welcome! Yes.

  • If you have a third computer: Yes.
  • If you plan on doing this on Computer A or Computer B: Yrs, but it requires that you run two Syncthing instances on the computer because a Syncthing instance cannot sync between local directories. You need two instances which is a bit complicated. Instead I would recommend a tool designed for this purpose, such as FreeFileSync or Unison.

Thank you! This is exactly the sort of pitfall I was worried about.

If you have steam cloud enabled for retroarch it might cause conflicted files that is the only issue I’ve run into i sync between 2 android devices and two Windows devices
