Replacing Google Play Syncthing with the F-Droid package.

Echoing minzdrav’s question:

“What is the recommended way to switch from Google Play to F-Droid? In the F-Droid UI I can see only the delete button. Looks like it’s not possible to update the Google Play version from the F-Droid. Should I remove and reinstall? What about configuration? Do I need to set up all folders again?”

Are you saying that the only/correct way to ‘move’ to using F-Droid is to uninstall-reinstall syncthing-android and reimporting the config file? Do I need to set up all folders again (or anything else I haven’t thought about)?

Thank you in advance.

If you export and import the old config, then Syncthing should “just” work. It will still need to reindex the local data, however the paths and everything should stay exactly the same, and the files themselves also won’t be downloaded again.

Of course, it’s always good to make a backup just in case something unexpected happens.
