I think that your device is toast…

there are no messages on dmesg anymore about file system errors after running fsck. the synchronization is eventually happening but slowly; synced about 700MB with 30MB remaining. so working? i guess?

the remaining out of sync items are “

syncing: no connected device has the required version of this file

There are quite a few “disk I/O” errors within those ~3 minutes of log entries. The internal flash memory is very likely mapping out the bad blocks, but without a full wipe, there’s no way to know how bad the problem really is. It wouldn’t be surprising if filesystem corruption pops up again soon.

I don’t think the device is toast. I’m getting the exact same errors on a PW10 with syncing 2.0 and greater. Syncthing 1.30 and prior works as expected with no errors.

A snippet from the logs posted earlier:

error=“handling index-update for dfdmz-idylr: update (insert file): disk I/O error: no such file or directory”

That looks like a database error. Given that Syncthing 1.x and 2.x use wildly different database engines, it’s not surprising that the same errors don’t appear when running 1.x.

SQLite in Syncthing 2.x supports ACID while LevelDB does not (LevelDB’s primary focus is performance). SQLite has layers upon layers of sanity checks to reduce the risk of database corruption due to power loss, filesystem errors, etc. It also means SQLite is more sensitive to hardware issues than LevelDB.

When a HDD goes bad, it’s often very noticeable and seldom drawn out. But USB, SSD, eMMC and other flash media often die slowly, block by block.

I ran a dmesg just as arooni did, no errors. This is from a fresh boot:

[root@kindle root]# mount | grep /mnt/us fsp on /mnt/us type fuse.fsp (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,allow_other) fsp on /var/tmp/chroot/mnt/us type fuse.fsp (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,allow_other)

Maybe this is more of fuse slowing down sqlite? The low-spec hardware is listed in dmesg as well. We are talking about two different devices with the same I/O problem. I could see that the kindle isn’t up to par for syncthing 2.0, and I certainly wouldn’t ask for 2.x to support these devices. If there is some other way to confirm a bad block device I’m willing to chase this out. In any case, hopefully if someone else comes along this will keep them from wasting time on v 2.x.

Just for reference. I’m running into the same problem on a jailbroken kindle scribe.
