Syncthing on my (Win11) PC acting as “file server”. This one has a .stignore file made by me to selectively choose what (not) should be shared in the shared folder.
Syncthing-Fork running on several Android devices as clients.
Now my question is: When I delete a synced file on the Android device, does the deletion propagate to the PC (what I want)?
There should be no difference whether it’s a deletion, modification or a newly created file in this case, meaning that if the filename is covered by the ignore patterns, then the deletion won’t be synced (and vice versa).
One caveat is that if the file in question is present on the PC side already (but ignored), and you delete the same file on the phone, and only then you remove it from the PC’s ignore patterns, then Syncthing won’t delete the file on the PC but rather sync it to the phone again. This is done to prevent unexpected data loss after modifying ignore patterns.
