Hello, I just want to make sure that I’m double checking everything. I don’t want to lose any data. I’m going to be formatting and upgrading to my computer from Win10 → Win11, and therefor deleting my syncthing service on my windows machine. Do any procedures or recommended steps need to be taken prior to deleting syncthing from a computer? I can just unshare the folders and move on with the format?
Backup your data first. But otherwise, yes, that should work just fine.
Just stop ST, backup 4 certs files and config.xml from appdata…
Format | Install win
Put your files to sync back in THE SAME path : letter:…user…
Restore the 5 config files in the same place. Manually edit config.xml if you could not honour the step above.
Start syncthing.exe
You may have to manually recreate the .stfolder if you didn’t backup them and see sync is broken
Enjoy ST
Simple
I didn’t think of saving my config so I had to redo everything after i deleted my node. This is a good guide, thanks.
Before shutting down the old instance I recommend setting all folders to “receive only”. Then shut down and copy the config as above. This way if there’s any problem with syncthing recognizing all the files on the new installation you can “revert local changes” and not mess up the files on all the remote devices.
Then after verifying everything is in order, change appropriate folders to send/receive.
