One way synch seems to not synch at all

On node A, I have a share A1 that is shared with node B. Node A is folder master. On node B, I accept sharing A1 but I do not enter node A in the list of nodes that A1 is shared with. Actually, B does not share A1 to any other node. It seems that in this setup there’s nothing synched at all, while I would expect the data to be synched from A to B. Is that correct? Is that intended behaviour?

Yes it is. You have to have mutual agreement on both sides what share and what you don’t share. If A doesn’t share something with B, whatever B sends to A will be ignored.
