lost access to nas

My sync speed was at about 4kbs and was relaying on wan even though its a local network. Made an error with IP’s trying to fix, so now 192.168.0.33:8384 goes to “syncthing” instead of where my files are located on the nas “nas”. They must have the same username and password. Im dead in the water and assume its a listening address problem. Did everything I could in config.xml to remedy, but the default “syncthing” keeps coming up. Thanks for any help you can offer. Im learning but have a long ways to go.

I’m not aware of any NAS that uses TCP/8384 for its management port - to the best of my knowledge, only Syncthing uses that.

I could be wrong. Stop Syncthing’s process? See what else is trying to listen using that port?

Sorry if I was unclear but there seems to be a default device on the Nas called “syncthing” and one called “Nas” created by me. “Nas” has the files and syncs with the remote desktops but I lost the ability to access it through GUI and add shares. The username and password that went to “Nas” now goes to “syncthing”.

Can I please have your honest opinion. Im extremely busy and people like you are too. Dont want anyones time wasted. IF I struggle to understand IP’s, ports, listening address, forwarding, nat’s, etc. Should I abandon using this NAS and just get a cloud service? Im an electrical contractor of average intelligence without the time to do a lot of research. Just need to selectively sync my employees 5 debian desktops without wasting a week of setup time. Thanks so much for your opinion if you can give it. I looked at a service to assist in setup and maint and its about $6000…thats a lot of cloud storage I could pay for!.

I think the main problem with those NAS devices is that unless you install your own, they all come with different operating systems, and you do need to have some prior knowledge (or be able to quickly learn on the fly) in order to use them. This isn’t really about Syncthing, which when installed on a normal computer is quite simple to configure, but rather the NAS itself.

If you do want to have the problem at hand fixed, I’d suggest to share screenshots of what you’re seeing on the screen first, as it may very well be specific to your particular device (or operating system, etc.).

Thanks for the response. As built by me: Asustor Nas, open media vault installed on emmc, docker, syncthing. Workstations have fresh install of debian, syncthing is running and some syncs are good, the workstation in the office with the nas is supposed to sync 400gb of files but sync would have taken over a 1000 hours. It was relaying on wan even though everything is 192.168.0.xxx on this lan. Screenshot shows “syncthing” has somehow replaced “nastradamas” which is my nas and main SSD and will have everything once dekstop syncs with it. This started after trying to fix the slow transfer, same user and password brought up “syncthing” instead of “nas” at the OMV/sycnthing/nas device. FYI, this is absolutely overwhelming my ability, editing config.xml files have failed.

Brought the “church” computer to office and you can see thats its relaying even

though on same switch as the nas.

Yeah, so you likely do need to fiddle with the firewall, etc. to make Syncthing establish direct connections, as otherwise synchronising that many files is going to take a long time. Also, I would suggest to switch your Syncthing packages to https://apt.syncthing.net, as right now, it seems that you’re using what Debian provides, and those are heavily outdated Syncthing versions.

Hey really appreciate the help. I decided I need to learn a lot more before implementing this. Got everything going on pcloud instead. Was cheap, quick and easy. Hopefully can find time to learn more about networks next winter. Take care!

Unfortunately some routers are given to you by the ISP as black boxes and you can’t change stuff like is “guest” and regular wifi bridged or even ethernet and regular wifi. If it isn’t you’re OOL.

Its a capable router with numerous folders full of settings, i’m just not well trained in how to configure it all. The experience installing omv, docker, syncthing, linux on the deskttops, and getting the syncs setup was a great learning experience. But i switched to pcloud for now and will try to learn more this winter when not so busy and try this again. Thanks for your help.
