I am not a computer guy, 75 years old so mastering syncthing was a pretty herculean task for me. I had to enlist the help of Perplexity AI to assist me with set up and understanding how the program works. Took me 2-3 weeks to fully grasp how to use it properly. I have the Synch Tray installed too.
Now I am fully up and running with Syncthing and it is wonderful. It works brilliantly - I use it on my four laptops, all synched together. What a dream program! My hats off to you guys!
Now you just came out with a new version 2.0.0.
Question: Is it all right to stay with the earlier version for a while. Its a comfort thing. I don’t want to try anything new. I don’t want to experiment. I don’t want a new adventure, as you put it. Its working perfectly as it is. Why fix it if its not broke!
As long as it works for you, you can stay on it. From a developer point of view, things were broken and needed fixing. Time will tell if we did fix them or not.
Honestly, when it comes to the GUI, there are currently no differences between Syncthing v1 and v2, and the changes are mainly under the hood, so in most cases you probably wouldn’t even notice the upgrade (especially if this is a very fresh installation). I think one quite common exception is if you are using the old command line flag syntax that rely on single - instead of double -- (e.g. -home instead of --home, etc.), which would prevent Syncthing v2 from starting, but this all depends on how you have installed and set Syncthing up in the first place.
