Insufficient Space without success

Hi,

i setup 2 Virtual Machine.

1 Debian with /mnt/USB500GB mounted 2 Ubuntu with /mnt/GoogleDrive mounted with Rclone and cache limit for rclone at 10GB.

When i sync from 1 to 2, Ubuntu machine, so destination, go out of space.

I setup 1GB space min. Anyway Of Ubuntu I have 18GB free, then rclone use 10GB, so 8 GB left.

But syncthing seems that get everything and i can’t use it.

Please can you help me to figure out?

I read and tried a lot without success

Can you post screenshots of the Syncthing Web GUI that show the specific error at hand? There’re two different settings regarding disk space in Syncthing — one specific to each folder, and one specific to the database. Please make sure which of the two the error is about.

SAMBA

SYNCH

Samba server have mounted 2 folder via samba: /mnt/SSD128GB /mnt/USB500GB

Sync server get files from these mounted samba folder from Samba server, and copy into: /mnt/BACKUP That is a folder mounted with RCLONE ( Google Drive )

But space isn’t enough and come up quickly, so there is an issue in my synchthing i guess.

What is the exact error message regarding the insufficient disk space though? There should be an error message at the very top, but it’s missing from the screenshots. If you’ve already closed it, you can probably re-trigger it by pausing and unpausing the problematic folders (or just restarting Syncthing itself).

SYNCH server

Yeah, so it’s talking about the space required for the database somewhere under /root/… You should be able to to see the whole path if you hover over the error with the mouse. Otherwise, it should also be recorded in the log (Actions → Logs).

The path in question is /root/.config/syncthing, but the situation seems quite obvious now. You need more free space on the /root/ partition.

You’ve also got four panic logs there. It may be useful to upload them here as well.

panic-20220629-160732.reported.log (482.1 KB)

Say no space left, but i have a 23GB of disk and isn’t enough?

How much space we need to use syncthing?

If i need to synch 1tb, i need one more TB to sync? I hope no, have no sense, is too much space useless

Can you verify once again how much space is really available on the /root partition? We’ve had this kind of panics, and they normally happen when there’s literally no space left on the disk, so that Syncthing isn’t even able to write to its database anymore.

Is 100% used

Assuming that this line

refers to the “23GB of disk”, then yes, it seems to be 100% full, i.e. there’s no free space left.

I know but why synchthing need more space? How much space needed? Need to know how much, right?

We can’t add space to sync stuff i guess, also because i can’t manage a lot my config.

I don’t undestand why need more space, and how much especially.

So please can help me in this way?

Is possible limit syncthing in that?

The database needs space to store information about the synced files. In general, the more data you sync, the more space will the database require. The database is located in the index-v0.14.0.db folder, so you can check it to see how much space it is using right now.

Not really. The only real way would to be to sync less files.

Do you use ignore patterns heavily? If yes, then I can provide one hard-learnt tip related to them, which is that if you’ve got folders, where you ignore almost everything with a few negated patterns, then it will be much more efficient to add each of those excluded folders to Syncthing separately and get rid of the ignore patterns altogether. This is because the ignored files’ information is also stored in the database, and as such it still takes disk space.

In addition, you could also use compression to reduce the size of the index-v0.14.0.db folder, but this will depend on your filesystem, and whether it supports any kind of built-in compression in the first place.

Sorry but db are too small, so i don’t understand how to fix it…

You sync only ~7 GB on that device, so it’s normal that the database takes very little. If the Syncthing folders are indeed located on different partitions, then this means that it’s something else, possibly completely unrelated to Syncthing, that takes the rest of the space.
