How to set up Syncthing so that every client who has the data transfers it to other clients

Hello,

we have set up Syncthing with four clients. We use it to synchronize the MediaFiles folders of our editing system. We thought that Syncthing would obtain data from all clients that already have the data. However, it appears that data is only transferred when the client that originally brought the data into the network is online, even if another client already has all the data. Do we need to configure something to make this work?

Kind regards

Devices share data only with other devices they have accepted/added. Data is not shared if the device is not aware of each other.

Also, the fact the data “is the same”, they need to convert/get in sync before the data can be shared with others.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

To clarify, all folders and devices have been accepted and added to the network. However, we are encountering a specific issue. When two devices have synchronized data, the third device, which still lacks some data, does not receive the missing files from the second device. It appears that the data transfer only occurs when the original device that introduced the data into the network is online.

Could you provide guidance on how to configure Syncthing so that any device with the complete data can share it with other devices, regardless of which device originally brought the data into the network?

Kind regards

As Audrius said, no setup beyond sharing the folder between all the devices is necessary for this. Please share whatever you are absorbing that indicates that it gets the data from one device only/sync doesn’t happen without that device. And screenshots of the web UI to see the general setup.

There is no “network”, unless you actively set it up yourself, i.e., add each device on each other device, and share the folders you want shared.
