How to list only (i.e. moblie) and sync/access only on demand

Before I started to use syncthing I was a subscriber to sync.com. But Poor technical support and various other (some illogical) issues led me to cancel all.

However there is one feature I miss with syncthing respectively have not found or am I aware of: since the master folder synchronized are a couple hundred gigabytes and I do not have such storage space on my mobile phone, I just want to see the [files] contents listing and only when I click open a particular file the latter gets [on demand] downloaded to my mobile and opened. The same vice versa, when I click “save” on my mobile that file would then update the other file i.e. on my desktop.

The previous mentioned product did that. How can I do that with syncthing?

The best name for this that I’ve seen is “Selective Sync.” Syncthing does not support that natively.

I did propose a clunky workaround: Idea: Workaround for Selective Sync .

While I do not speak for the developers and maintainers of Syncthing, they’ve said before that they aren’t interested in developing a feature like this.

Personally, I’m finding that Tailscale Drive works really well for me, and I’m on the free “Personal” license. I do recognize that Tailscale is not for everyone.

Simpler I just remote access my desktop!
