How to configure multiple devices send only to server with receive only?

I have a VM running Syncthing on my Proxmox server and I want to connect multiple devices to send only to this Syncthing server on the same folder and the Syncthing server just receives and not send anything back.

So one folder “foo” on Syncthing server set as receive only and multiple devices phones, laptop etc set as send only to foo on Syncthing server. Is this possible to do so?

I tried do so but the folder on the Syncthing server always end up saying “Local Additions” and a red button appears for “Revert Local Changes”

This is from the Syncthing server, you can see it is shared with 2 devices ATM,

Welcome here @apoorv569 !

Your use case is based on the assumption that Syncthing is a transfer tool. It is not.

Syncthing is, in accordance with its name, a synchronization tool. Its aim is to keep things in sync. Yes it has Receive Only and Send Only modes, but the main goal is still synchronization and that is why deviation from synchronized state is shown as Local Additions on your server.

I think you better switch to using one Syncthing folder for each devise instead.

I see. Can I use same folder path but with different folder id for each device?

Sorry, no.

I see. Well that’s unfortunate.. Guess I’ll look for some other way to do what I am trying to do.

If you don’t mind, could you explain what happens when you select send only or receive only? as you mentioned it still does synchronization, what does it synchronize if its receive only?

Sorry, I might have mislead you a bit. Let’s take a step or two back.

In your original post you wrote:

It shows:

  • Shared with two devices.
  • Global state of 53 files.
  • Local state also 53 files.
  • 1 locally modified file.

What is the locally modified file? Did you modify it on the server?

Its a mp3 audio file, I don’t thing I modified it. Actually this folder on Syncthing was deleted and re-created multiple times because I mis-configured it couple of times.. perhaps this file was left modified during that time?

Given the uncertainty around that file, let’s move on for a bit.

Can you please share screenshots of that folder from the two connected devices?

I could but I would be blurring most of it as the the files are private. Perhaps you could tell me what are we looking for and I could help you with that.

No, I meant the same kind of screenshot you already shared, but from the other devices instead.

Oh! I see. I can but the device is not mine but some other family member’s. Its late night here maybe I can share that tomorrow morning.
