Hi, due to the battery issue of syncthing v2 on Android 16, I want to revert to using syncthing v1. However, the syncthing-fork repo seems to have undergone deletion and I can’t find v1 apks there. How can I get the last v1 version of syncthing-fork on Android? Thank you.
You can get the old versions from F-Droid via https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid?repo=archive.
Before doing anything with version 2 at this point, I would wait until the dust settles on the transition of @researchxxl’s version. The transition from the previous version has not been handled in a manner that inspires trust. For the full story, you can read https://forum.syncthing.net/t/does-anyone-know-why-syncthing-fork-is-no-longer-available-on-github/ but prepare to be confused.
I’m sticking with the older build until the dust settles but you should know that there is some drama right now before installing a program with full device permission using build from another developer.
Have anyone tried if syncthingtray has the same problem?
i totally understand if you like not to try now.. but if you decide to try 1.30.0.5 pls let me know if this fixes the battery drain observed before in the v2 track ![]()
Good question. I would assume Syncthing Tray is equality affected as the problem most likely comes from Syncthing itself.
I haven’t observed this problem yet, though. However, that’s probably just because I don’t overdo it with the size of my Syncthing folders and the number of files within a certain directory. I usually also pause my biggest folders and only resume them as needed. I also haven’t tested under Android 15 and 16 yet (except in the emulator).
I should probably reply in the battery thread, but switching to v1 does solve the battery problem (~30% to ~1%). I’m using pixel 9a (android 16). My galaxy s20 (android 13) doesn’t have this problem with v2.
Are there any functionality or features that are lost upon switching to v1?
Take a look at Releases · syncthing/syncthing · GitHub — I expect that most can make it work. Also, V1 and V2 are interoperable.
The old database is unmaintained and there are some known bugs likely related to it, so if you encounter those issues, you cannot really expect any meaningful support.
Other than that, I think the old version should still do the job for a long time into the future.
Can we at least get security updates for v1 till battery issue and android app drama solved?
i am not aware of security issues in the official syncthing binary v1.30.0 which is used to build the syncthing fork for android wrapper.. to fix potential security issues, i did update syncthing fork v1 to 1.30.0.5 which is built upon latest android dependencies
keeping the dependencies up to date is one of many puzzle parts to ensure android applications do not suffer from known security issues over time
I meant, if someone find a security issue in 1.30 can we expect patches at least till battery issue and android app drama settled. Not that there are any.
Unfortunately I can’t upgrade from 1.30.0.4 to 1.30.05 on Pixel 9a.
There is an info: App not installed.
