Filesystem Watcher Errors on Raspberry Pi

Just set up a Syncthing instance on a Raspberry Pi 4B with 270GB of files in 9 shared folders. Most seem to sync fine. But I’ve got two folders which are showing ‘Out of Sync’, and a yellow banner at the top with ‘Filesystem Watcher Errors’:

For the following folders an error occurred while starting to watch for changes. It will be retried every minute, so the errors might go away soon. If they persist, try to fix the underlying issue and ask for help if you can’t. Support

WhatsApp Media readdirent /media/ben/500GB/WhatsApp Media/WhatsApp Video: input/output error

Phone Photos :camera: readdirent /media/ben/500GB/Nokia 3.4/Camera: input/output error

Both these folders are shared with my phone (but others are too, and those ones are OK). They both have a bunch of failed items which also say ‘input/output error’. I can’t see anything more useful in the log, though I haven’t dug very far. Any thoughts? I couldn’t find anything relevant in the forum.

“input/output error” generally means your disk is broken.

That’s the impression I had. But it’s only those two folders. I’d expect a broken disk to affect a more random selection of files?

Nonetheless

I tried removing and re-adding the folders. It won’t add them - says “folder path missing” (but it should create the folder!). The log reveals

Device XYZXYZ folder “Phone Photos :camera:” (xyzxyz) has mismatching index ID for us (0x5D… != 0x07…)

What does this mean and how can I fix it?

I restarted with the --reset-deltas switch. And I re-added the folder but with the ‘Ignore Permissions’ advanced setting. And now both folders seem to be syncing OK. The mismatching index thing might be a red herring.
