Customize folder icons synced but one day got all wiped.
I have customized folder items using i.e. Folder Maker for visual aid and better acuity/recognition.
In the beginning whatever I synchronized, the folders had the customized icons. Suddenly one day one machine wipe them off the other and itself! Why? It worked before! Now I know that the hidden system filing every folder “desktop.ini” contains the relevant information. in the beginning I had not sent the exclusion of *.INI and all seem to work just fine as anything synchronized is obviously identical. I checked the desktop.ini contents of some folders and they appear identical. So does any path reference therein as to where the icons are.
But after setting the aforementioned as exclusion I believe the problem started. furthermore now I get a warning “following folder I failed the file transfer” showing all the desktop.ini files. So I eliminated the exclusion again. This is illogical to me!
Here’s the real kicker: Not all custom icons got wiped! A few remained. Why is that? I have not found out yet what is so different on those few that survive the mystery wipe.
I’m currently experimenting with setting different attributes on the desktop.ini file i.e. read-only, hidden, archive or not etc. The same with the custom icon image file which resides the relevant folder. Perhaps the “read-only” will do the job?
How can I resolve this so one machine does not wipe out all the customizations?
After all, in the beginning all was fine.
