I would understand something like 3 years, because the data might be outdated.

Support topics are closed after 30 days. Those in other categories are not. I’d assume it’s because some people tend to “hijack” very old topics asking questions that aren’t necessarily related to the original issue, instead of creating a new topic of their own. At least that’s what I’ve seen on some other forums.
What tomasz said. Often it’s not nearly as closely related as one thinks, and even if, support involves lots of individual context and mixing that quickly gets messy and hard to follow. You can quote the topic (to get a link) and any content you deem relevant in a new topic.
