Asking for help with laptop device ID randomly switching, causing problems.

Hello and good day.

I have been troubling for the past 1 week with syncing my files due to Syncthing switching my laptop’s device ID at random times of the day.

At times, it is fixed for awhile as I attempted a restart and a reinstall of the app. However, a few days after, it glitches again to another device ID.

I have found similar problems in the formus but I haven’t found a solution that works on my situation.

I don’t have much ideas after doing the above solutions. Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

This is typically that you have a strange or broken installation, or multiple installations at the same time fighting with each other. Provide all the details you can about how you installed Syncthing and how you’re starting/running it, and someone may be able to give some useful tips.

Sure. So far:

Installation:

  • I installed the base syncthing package for my windows laptop (64-bit)
  • Extracted the files and placed it to where my task scheduler can access and run it.

Running:

  • I run syncthing with windows task scheduler.
  • I followed the instructions, but modified it a bit, on how to run syncthing on the background on windows.

However, as I look back at the modification that I did for the task scheduler, it may be the cause.

I’ll redo the settings the same as the instructions on the syncthing website and I’ll see how it affects the next.

I changed the task scheduler settings as according to the instructions in the Syncthing website.

And so far, the syncing is alright.

When you said multiple installations fighting each other, I realized that I set my task scheduler to run at user log-on on both user accounts on the device.

That may have been the cause. And, then again, so far no problems encountered.

Thanks for the help, calmh. Appreciated.
