Access Denied & Folder not empty (Win7-32b-Atom)

Hi

Folder is r/w on both side. The 2 devices are 0.14.44.

I unzipped an archive into a new subdir in a shared folder on node A (Win). Then once synced, on node B (Linux-64b) I moved the whole subfolder “Artist” that contained about 12 other subfolders out of ST scope. Now node A shows this. I made sure no hidden or system files are there in.

Artist 	directory is not empty

On both side I have these ignores. A-Win:

I checked permissions and ReadOnly status but I did not see difference with other files in the Windows profile. The user is member of Administrators, has ownership & full privileges on the whole tree and st runs as the user.

Some idea please ?

[EDIT]: looking at Linux side, I see the 2 Disc 1/2 subdirs (now out of ST scope) have a special icon with a lock

BTW, Windows disk is NTFS

Back to A, I added a file in Disc 1. Once synced, from B I moved the whole subtree Artist\(2001) The Definitive Collection\Disc 1 again out of ST scope and now Disc 1 is removed on A.

A current status : global:0/0/0 local:0/3/384 B Out of sync items: 3 items: ~0 B, Failed items: 3 items

On the device that shows “Accès refusé” something is preventing syncthing from deleting “Disc 2”. You need to check permissions of that dir and parent directories. I believe this is on windows, so I guess that’s somewhere in the properties dialog. If it is on linux, run ls -lad in “Disc 2”, as access rights to the parent directory also limit what you can do with its content.

On Windows (A), as I said in OP I yet checked and I couldn’t see any difference. I think the problem is in ST because if I add a file in Disc 2 on Win (A) then Disc 2 will be recreated on B (not only populated), and then if I delete the tree on B, the tree will delete on A.

Would it be possible there is an issue with massive delete request, as the 2 folders Disc 1 & Disc 2 were the content of the last folder (in alphabetic sorting) ((2001) The definitive…) in the Artist tree, and this also may mean the last that was caught in deletion process before treating the parent ?

[EDIT]: this Windows is French. I switched the GUI to English in the second post, so that we see the message “Accès refusé” really seems to come from the NTFS through Windows localization.

The error is definitely occurring at OS level, detectable by the error “Accès refusé” being French, Syncthing does not translate any error/log messages. It would be good to know on which operation it occurs. Please look at the log for a log line like INFO: Puller (folder ..., file ...): *operation*: Accès refusé.

Probably you don’t own the folders in Windows, hence they cannot be deleted, or there is also a known issue if folders have a custom icon.

@AudriusButkevicius, the whole tree was created from zip extraction, so all privileges/ownership would be the same… I checked.

Custom icon was in Linux side (and I saw it only once I moved the tree out of st scope), and it was not really custom, only the native nautilus icon showing we don’t have the “w” bit set. Would I’ve be able to move the tree if I first had not the “w” bit set ? whatever, on Win side, I unchecked the readonly checkboxes for Disc 1 & Disc 2 that both were grayed as usual on all directories. This I read that only this attribute is honoured when it comes to sync NTFS to extX FS. But the error was still here even after restarting st (I didn’t rebooted the Windows). And I repeat, the 2 folders were really empty.

Well, all I can say, Windows is refusing allowing us to delete the folder when we try to, I cannot tell you why, but here are possible causes:

Some application is using that directory (as in, have it open).
The ownership, permissions or ACLs on the directory do not permit us to delete it (and no, just declaring that it came from a zip file does not validate that the permissions are correct).

Of course, but the very strange is : Once dir is deleted on B but fails to delete on A, and then I add a file in dir on A, then dir is re-created on B, then I delete dir on B, then dir now deletes on A ???

I suspect it gets recreated on B with different permissions that then get synced to A.

Tonight I will be able to run a CACLS command on the remaining dir. Would this be of some interest before I manually delete it ?

I have no idea what that command does, so not sure. If that answers why syncthing is not able to delete the dir, then sure.

As you see Me gets (F)ull privileges (I)nherited from Administrators membership. I even gave to myself explicit Full control on Disc 2, but still in error “Out of sync”

So this doesn’t mean much to me, but parent of Disc 2 doesn’t have Me. Anyways, if that’s not a problem, then perhaps something (some application) has that directory open, hence it cannot be removed. Did you try rebooting your PC?

I thought about that: I checked with Unlocker and I saw Explorer.exe had a lock on Disc 2 and many other dirs. I just closed Explorer window (not killed it), reopened, re-checked and saw no locks anymore . Althought, st couldn’t still delete Disc 2. In the end I deleted this tree by hand and I didn’t get an error. This is remaining a strange issue I already met in previous releases, but maybe not exactly the same, who knows? Something that may have bring the issue is this : when I initially unzipped the archive to the shared folder (using 7zip filemanager) I got an error at some point, stating a CRC error on a file so I killed 7z. Maybe this left behind what we French call une trace de pneu dans le calbut.

I thought of, but didn’t as I used this laptop remotely and wasn’t sure I could get access back on reboot.
