A proposed cure for out-of-sync items, kinda

Here’s a wacky idea. In the log, output the reason why the item is out of sync. Just tell me why syncthing thinks the objects are different?

I am setting up a new pair of directories, two different systems, one Linux and multiuser, one my Mac laptop. I own the files on both sides, the syncthing processes run as me. Before adding the diretory to either syncthing instance, I used rsync to sync them, both ways, so at least as far as rsync determines, there are no differences.

67 out-of-sync items out of 17,000+ files. And I have no idea why. The files are identical by MD5 hash. What am I supposed to so?

On this very forum there are dozens if not hundreds of “why are my files out-of-sync” threads and there is never a definitive answer. Why not have syncthing actually output why the files are out of sync?

There is no ultimate solution to this problem, meaning that each case needs its own approach and explanation. At the moment, this is done, for example, when you try to sync files with illegal filenames to a Windows device, where Syncthing will tell you exactly why those files cannot be downloaded.

If your specific case hasn’t been covered in a similar manner though, then Syncthing will likely just show you an error message coming from the OS. The problem is that those messages are usually vague with no detailed explanation (e.g. “illegal operation”).

When it comes to dealing with such support requests on the forum, we normally ask for screenshots and possibly logs that would shed more light on the specific issue. Without those, we can often only just guess what the culprit may be .

The OP is light on details but I suspect this is in relation to a send only folder or something like that.

Well I’m an idiot and should read the output files more closely. Sorry for the noise everyone, feel free to delete the thread.
