4GB Folder taking HOURS to transfer to Android

Hello - new to the forum and new to Syncthing.

I’m using Syncthing to sync my Joplin notebook. My ~/.config/joplin-desktop directory is a bit over 4GB. I started syncing to my phone about four hours ago and I’m just now at about 40% complete.

Is this normal? I was able to transfer my photos almost instantly, and while they’re not 4GB (they’re 200MB), it doesn’t scale. 200MB <2min is <10min/GB. The sync should have taken longer than 40min or so at that rate.

What gives?

Yes. Because:

  1. Receiving files on Android is slow because Android’s filesystem is slow (read: receiving files is faster on other platforms, and sending files from Android is faster than receiving them)
  2. Transferring a lot of small files is slower than transferring fewer large files

Thank you!

One more question - once the folder is synced to my Android, will I be able to use Joplin reliably with smaller changes? How about Logseq?

In general, small changes will sync fast. I don’t know about Joplin or Logseq data in particular.

Honestly, probably not. How many files are in the Joplin folder you’re trying to sync? If it’s more than 1,000, and you use filesystem sync inside Joplin, then it will also likely operate very slowly.
