2 problems: can't sync Word doc while editing, & editing Obsidian creates many many "sync-conflict" files

I use v2.1.5, Windows (64-bit Intel/AMD). I sync with an Android phone (using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.catfriend1.syncthingandroid, updated Aug 14, 2026) and an iPad (using ‎Synctrain App - App Store, Version 2.7).

1. Whenever I open a synced Microsoft Word document on Windows, that document becomes one of the Failed Items, with “The following items could not be synchronized. They are retried automatically and will be synced when the error is resolved.” Saving the file while having it open in Word doesn’t resolve the error. Only after closing the file does the error resolve.

2. When editing Obsidian (Version 1.13.7) files on Windows, more than 50 “sync-conflict” files generate within just 10 minutes of editing. This doesn’t happen when editing on Android, and most likely also doesn’t happen when editing on iPad.

Help would be appreciated.

The file being locked in Windows is normal. This is just how the operating system and MS Office work. You can add the lock file to your ignore patterns (~$*), but this still won’t allow you to sync the main document until you save and close it.

You may want to search for “obsidian” on the forum, because there’ve been quite a few topics about it. In short, you may need to add some internal Obsidian files to the ignore patterns as well. Which files those conflicted copies are created of specifically?
