I would be interested if there was ‘added value’ over just running a raspberry pi at home with a big ssd attached.

In my case this ‘added value’ would be a web interface to access and download your files from a computer not in your network. This is one advantage Dropbox has, you have the option to access your files from any computer using the web interface if necessary.

only would remotely make sense if at all if and when your crypted folders and crypted files feature would be available and well tested and robust.
