Why are ports not specified in the protocol description?

Hi,

for whatever reason this forum does not let me reply to https://pulse-forum.ind.ie/t/firewalls-and-port-forwards/166 So I start a new topic to ask.

What is the reason the protocol description does not specify the ports to be used? As far as I see this is an important part of the discovery, else systems which are sending on different ports would not be able to discover each other.

I assume you mean for the discovery protocol? Well, it’s more of an implementation detail than a property of the protocol, and it’s locally configurable.
