Very slow sync between two macs on LAN

I’ve been trying to troubleshoot the slow sync issue to no avail.

I’m running Syncthing on two macs connected directly via local network (not via relay). The folder has 475k files, with ~40GB total. Most files are small but there are some files > 50MB as well.

The sync speed is consistently about 1MB/s. Doesn’t matter whether the currently requested/downloaded files are large or small. It almost never climbs above 1.5 MB/s.

Both are Macbooks with SSD, unconstrained by CPU or memory during sync. Network quality is fine, minimal latency, no packet losses and transfers via other protocols easily reach 70MB/s.

I’ve read lots of threads and FAQs about slow sync, but still can’t figure out why it is so slow.

I suggest you do an isolated test with one large file to see what happens.
