Should we update the copyright date when modifying files?

I’ve had this on my mind for some time. Basically, should we update the copyright date when adding changes to the code?

For instance, https://github.com/syncthing/syncthing/blob/main/lib/versioner/util.go was modified for the last time this year, but its copyright date still says 2014.

Would it be desirable to update the date to the current year when adding changes to such a file?

No. The year is essentially that of first publication, so no update required or desired.

Understood . I think I saw some cases when the date was updated though, hence the question, but I can’t remember any specific commit now.
