For example if I have several devices and want to make sure that a certain device receives the updated files I have to check the following:

The device is connected The file lists are synced There are no running transfers

Yeah you are right, I guess the previous one is definitely more clear so we should stick to that one

I kinda like the idea to remove the device bar, because it makes the UI very intuitive. But we have to make sure that it doesn’t make the most common use cases any harder to accomplish. At best it would speed them up. That’s why I would like to work on the recognizability of the identicons/icons first.

Allow people to assign laptop/desktop/server/phone icons to devices and show the first character of the name. Paul’s laptop would then be a laptop icon with a P in the center. The colors should still be used to indicate the state.

I did make some quick mockups on this but it didn’t come out right. But I will definitely try again, since I agree that these identicons are not so great at telling you exactly what devices are linked to that folder.
