I think that in such a case it would be helpful to create a test environment in a small format that can be represented and to test the possible scenarios. Each software has its own features and specialties, to which, conversely, the environment maybe also can adapted under circumstances. You just have to take some time to do this and then you might have the concept you were hoping for or not in the final.
Just for the record: I didn’t mean to dissuade anyone from continuing to discuss this issues. Not that I could/would be in a place to do so anyway.
