The website says that Syncthing is a backup program.

Syncthing is a backup program—especially when used in parallel with its version filling system. It keeps additional copies of files across devices (including older editions) that helps provide some safety if one or more machines are no long usable.

However, I do really appreciate your concern. I am not certain if there are features necessary for myself but recognize more specialized backups may be useful for some or in certain situations.
