Higher latency in v0.11.26?

We have run some latency tests using Syncthing on a dedicated LAN, between an Ubuntu and a Win7 system. We are using the “inotify” plugin along with Syncthing to get speedy response. Earlier tests, using v0.11.24, resulted in an average latency about 2 seconds (that is, it took about 2 sec for a file put in the sync’ed folder on the Ubuntu side to show up in the Win7 folder). Now, using the same setup but with v0.11.26, it takes about 6.5 sec. Could be a fluke in our test. But I wanted to check if there is some basic difference between the 2 versions that might explain this difference.

Just a little background: we are developing a streaming content delivery system which can leverage file sharing services such as Syncthing, Dropbox, etc. Latency is an important metric in the evaluation. In general, we are very impressed with Syncthing and would like to see it work well with our setup.

Best regards,

John

There’s almost no difference between those two versions, and certainly nothing that affects that…

v0.12 is a bit quicker in this respect too, by the way.

Thank you for the quick and helpful response, Jakob!

Is v0.12 available?

Best regards,

John

There is a Release Candidate out:

Thank you for your help, Jakob and Bob.

In the Syncthing web interface, under Advanced Configuration => Options there is a setting called progressUpdateIntervalS whose value is 5. What does this setting mean, and is it possible its value has changed with recent releases? Any chance it might explain the difference in latency between v0.11.24 and v0.11.26?

Best regards,

John

No, that option merely controls how often the GUI gets updates about ongoing downloads. In v0.11 there are no configurable delays that are relevant. In v0.12 the delays that were there have been removed.

OK, thank you Jakob!
