Thank you so much for the extended information.

Given the nature of the incident, the only thing that could explain it is a disconnect due to BT problems–there is nothing else I can think of.

I do not recall. I vaguely remember that I could not use the Windows installer, but I could be wrong. In any case, if there is such a feature, then most likely it was applied, possibly inadevertently, as I do not recall using it.

I assume if I delete the shortcuts and reboot, it won’t start automatically?

Thanx.

It appears to me that you have both a shortcut to start and another shortcut to stop Syncthing in your Start Menu Startup folder. If that’s the case, removing the shortcuts and rebooting should have Syncthing running only when you choose to start it.

But check Task Scheduler too.

I think you misread the original message about the different number of start menu shortcuts.

This means they show up in a group called “SyncThing” in the start menu. It has nothing to do with the “Start Menu\Programs\Startup” folder that contains shortcuts auto-started on login.

The stuff about stctl.exe looks like you’re using the Windows installer package by @billstewart if I’m not mistaken. You should maybe uninstall it through the system control panel and reinstall afterwards, making sure to pick the right choices.
